BLSKS presents musical concert on world no tobacco day for blind students

JAMMU, May 31: To observe the 'World No Tobacco Day', Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan, in coordination with Ministry of Social Justice and empowerment , Government of India, Social Welfare Deptt, J&K Govt. and Sangam Tru Art Production presented mega cultural program on "Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyan & Swatch Bharat" at Jammu in its 333th Tuesday Series Musical Play "TOBACCO KOLA BACHO " on theme of this year is "Tobacco: Threat to our Environment" to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. A pledge was also taken by more than 50 Students, Teachers and prominent citizens by M.C. Kotwal, Secretary of BLSKs administered the pledge and Certificate of honor of the Ministry of Social Justice was presented to the Superintendent. The programe was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mohd. Shahbaz, Superintendent, Residential School For Blind - Roop Nagar. Among the Guest of Honors present were Sanjay Kumar, Master Blind School, Smt. Veena Bali, Senior Asst of Blind school. The day commemorated as well with sole aim of rejuvenating the traditional, Primitive Folk, Art, Culture of J&K Region in particular and Indian Nasha Nai Kario Munde Kureio", "Bacho Bacho Tobacoo Kola Bacho", "Tu Mala Tu Log Pane thikriyan", "Ayi Ge Ne chan pardesi ayi ge ne", "Bolda banere Ute kaan", Nukkad, Skits, Songs and Dances were staged. The Chief Guest Mohd. Shahbaz said the World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year. The main aim of this day is to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco, the disease it can cause and the preventable measure. It also reaffirms our commitment to achieve social goals, initiatives to end drug abuse and strengthen community-centric approaches and expressed the resolve that India is committed to root out the menace of drug abuse at any cost and lauded the efforts of the organizers in making such awareness programmes colorful and effective. The artist of BLSKs presented theme based songs which were written by Dr. M.L. Dogra & the music was the programe assisted by Raju Bajgal, Music Instructor, Blsks. The program was recorded & uploaded online on Social Media for benefit of the peoples.
Welcome speech was given by Dr. M.L. Dogra, Chairman, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan said Every year, on 31 May, the World Health Organization (WHO) and global partners celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD). The annual campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure, and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form & the current statistics on the rise in suicides and mental health issues has led the government to take the much required action for drug demand reduction. Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the flagship campaign of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is an initiative in this stride. The Abhiyaan has been valiantly fighting against the baleful repercussions of substance abuse at the ground level with the support of local administration, master volunteers, online competitions and several events. It has been evident that mental health disorders need to be addressed to build a healthy society that contributes to the national growth and development. Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is an efficacious attempt to fight against substance abuse and raise awareness for healthy lifestyles & also said I am happy to know the initiative taken up by the BLSKS, I hope and pray that this programs will be fruitful and Bharat will be a No.1 drug free country, If possible we all would like to take part in this Abhiyaan as a workers equal partners.
K.K. Joshi, Vice Chairman, BLSKs said this yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations & Volunteers and outreach workers of the organizations have gone from door to door, and nearby localities of Jammu city to educate the people about the ill effects of drug abuse and have assisted the rehabilitation of victims of substance abuse. The activities of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, despite the situation arising out of COVID-19 in the country, have continued in full force. Choose a reason that is strong enough to outweigh the urge to light up. The singers, musician and actors who performed were Usha Raina, Rajni Gupta, Bindia Okheda, Chahat Chadha, Sanjeev Kumar, Rahul Kumar,Sudesh Devi, Mukesh Singh, Zulekha farid, Afroz Aalam, Sunil Kumar, Vandana Gupta & at last Deepak Kumar progame coordinator, presented vote of thanks for successful conduction of the program.
