Cong ‘Chintan Shivar’
6/6/2022 11:27:36 PM

The trouble for the Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir seems to be growing deeper. Recently Azad loyalists stayed away from the Congress “Chintan Shivar” at Patnitop.
At the Shivar, the Congress leaders passed a resolution that Rahul Gandhi should head the All India Congress Committee (AICC). But the leaders from Azad’s camp didn’t sign the resolution.
The Congress high command took a serious note about dissidents staying away from the “Chintan Shivar.”
It has asked the absentee leaders to explain their positions. But the dissidents, according to the media reports, don’t want to relent and have decided to take the party leadership head on.
These leaders for a long time have been demanding that former J&K chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, should be given a frontal role in Jammu and Kashmir and affairs of the party should be handed over to him. As on date the Congress is in a bad shape in the Union Territory, it has lost its ground in Jammu and Kashmir. Even Jammu that was considered the bastion of Congress party in the past too has slipped out of party’s control.
Azad didn’t contest the Rajya Sabha polls as there were reports that the Congress Party is planning to give him a big role in Jammu and Kashmir. But there could be another side of the story, he may have been ignored by the party high command. Anyway there has been no word on it either by the Congress leadership or Azad.
The consensus among the Congress leaders who have been associated with the party in Jammu and Kashmir for the past many decades is clear that if the party has to make a comeback in the erstwhile State then Azad has to be given the charge. They believe that Azad is the only hope for the party’s revival in J&K.
The Delimitation Panel which was tasked to redraw parliamentary and assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir has already submitted its report and the polls in the Union Territory arte likely to be held later this year or early next year. If the Congress leaders fail to sort out their differences soon, the “Grand Old Party ‘’ of the country could end up in big trouble in J&K. The Congress dissidents are asking what’s stopping the party high command from empowering Azad? They staying away from “Chintan Shivar” as a mark of protest says it all.
