Director Handicrafts & Handloom, MD JKSICOP inspect construction work of upcoming Bamboo CFC at Sumb

SAMBA, June 11: To take stock of construction work of upcoming Bamboo CFC, at Sumb Samba, Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta and Managing Director, JKSICOP, Smita Sethi today conducted the spot visit and interacted with the stakeholders.
BDC Chairman Ramesh Singh laid the foundation stone for the upcoming CFC and motivated the artisans to work hard and make the CFC successful and work together for promotion of Bamboo products. Representative of PRI's Baldev Singh Sarpanch Panchayat Patyari, Suraj Kumar Verma Sarpanch Panchayat Baletar were also present.
The upcoming CFC under one roof shall provide the infrastructural and logistic support and common working shed to 300 Bamboo artisans of the area and shall pave way for development of improved Bamboo products like Basket baskets, Bamboo furniture and other utility items and shall pave way to tap the vast Bamboo potential of the area. These artisans shall also be provided training under Bamboo craft within and outside the UT.
Later, they also interacted with the local Artisans making Bamboo products and motivated them to make different things that are in demand in the market.
The Department is also focusing for revival of Calico craft in Samba District and for the purpose, is running a Calico training Centre with 20 trainees. Interacting with the calico artisans, Director Handicrafts and Hanldoom motivated the artisans to come forward and work collectively for revival of this languishing craft. They were apprised about the various schemes being implemented by the department for their upliftment and were encouraged to come forward to avail the benefits of the schemes for their sustainable livelihood.
Development Officer (Textile) Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, Dy Director Planning Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Samba, Project Manager, JKSICOP were also present at the occasion.
