Mehbooba, Omar attend opposition meeting in Delhi | Grand alliance on cards in J&K | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti along with her arch-political rival and former chief minister Omar Abdullah attended the meeting called by the opposition to evolve consensus on the name of a candidate for the Presidential poll. The decision of both Mehbooba and Omar to sit together in the opposition camp is an indication of forming a grand alliance in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming assembly elections. The grand alliance will be comprised of all constituents of the Gupkar Alliance and Congress. Mehbooba Mufti has already initiated the process to revive old relations with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Highly placed sources said that some political stalwarts at the national level are playing an important role in convincing both PDP and NC to jointly contest the elections along with Congress in J&K to stop BJP from forming its own government in the Union Territory. As reported earlier by this newspaper, Mehbooba Mufti has decided to sacrifice her own party’s interest to defeat BJP in J&K. Mehbooba Mufti is agreed to accept veteran leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah as her leader to jointly fight next assembly elections in J&K. “During her recent visit to Jammu, Mehbooba Mufti has given clear directions to her party leaders they should concentrate only on the constituencies dominated by BJP”, sources said and revealed that the PDP president has informed Jammu based leaders that the party will fight assembly elections in alliance with arch-rival National Conference (NC). With much publicity, the PAGD was formed in October 2019 by six political parties with the pledge of perseverance and steadfastness toward the restoration of Article 370. This resolution was written in the Alliance's declaration where the political parties stated there would be “nothing about us without us,” meaning they will stick together come what may. |
