6/18/2022 10:49:23 PM

Early Times Report

Ganderbal, June 18: Just weeks ahead of Amarnath Yatra, light snowfall occurred in areas adjacent to the cave shrine, including Panjtarni here in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Rain lashed the plains and valley Saturday overnight bringing down the mercury. The MeT has forecast inclement weather for the next 24 hours till Sunday. Official sources said that before the commencement of the annual pilgrimage on June 30, light snowfall around the Amarnath cave was expected. The weather will continue to be erratic till June 21. The Amarnath cave area recorded 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation. An official camping near Baltal said that all arrangements have been made for the pilgrims. The 43-day-long Amarnath Yatra is takes twin routes -- the traditional 48-km Nunwan in South Kashmir's Pahalgam and the 14-km shorter Baltal in central Kashmir's Ganderbal.
Over 2.5 lakh Yatris have registered for the pilgrimage so far.
