Agnipath Scheme a cruel joke on the youth, Govt. should scrap it for welfare of youth- MANOHAR
6/19/2022 10:17:04 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 19: Former Minister & Senior Congress leader Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma today heavily criticsed central governments Agneepath scheme and termed it as cruel joke with the youth of the country and demanded immediate roll back of the scheme. Manohar said that recruitment in the armed forces should be viewed with patriotism, love for the motherland and not employment and warned GOI not to do politics on this.He said the youth are protesting against this scheme of the government and adding that lathi charge, arrests of the protesting youth, and registering cases against them is totally unfair.
People in the country are already afflicted by rising poverty, inflation, unemployment, wrong policies, and arrogant working style of the government, in such a situation, the uneasiness spread among the youth regarding new recruitment system in the army is causing anxiety. Further Manohar said that GOI can’t choose welfare at the cost of the Army’s discipline and regimentation and said that the step was taken without adequate forethought and consultation with the stakeholders. Also while speaking he said Army is not profession but passion and life Over four lakh posts are vacant in the army and this cheap attempt to compensate them with small contract employment is totally unacceptable.
Four years of service will disrupt their education, and they will also face difficulties in getting another job or more education as they will be older to others with similar qualification, he said, adding they will face financial hardship as well. These soldiers with only six-month basic training may be a cause of disruption to the existing regimental formations .Also Manohar said “J&K is the land of brave warriors and the youth from every villages & household are in the army.
The youths join the army not for employment, but imbued with the spirit of patriotism and service to the country and are even ready to sacrifice their lives for the country.
