On “Jammu Smart City: Connecting the Dots

Jammu, June 19:Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch organized an exhibition cum Interaction on the theme “Jammu Smart City: Connecting the Dots” on June 18, 2022 to create awareness about the various initiatives being undertaken under the aegis of Jammu Smart City Ltd. During the exhibition, all the projects of JSCL were displayed to the audience, who keenly viewed these projects and interacted for more information.
The exhibition was followed by an interaction during which, Additional CEO, JSCL, Hitesh Gupta gave a detailed presentation about various projects of JSCL under the Smart Cities Mission Launched by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoUHA). He informed that the 134 projects have been executed across Jammu under Smart City Mission with an objective to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and harnessing technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens. “Among 134 projects, 51 projects of Rs 724.41 are completed and 75 are under different phases of execution”.
Besides that he said that four projects have already been tendered while 4 yet to be tendered.
He said that these projects focused on city beautification, smart urban mobility, Disaster Management, efficient green and Information Technology (IT) initiatives. During the presentation, he deliberated in detail on an ambitious project of JSCL “Tawi River Front”, which is being developed on the lines of the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat. He added that the project is aimed to develop the aesthetic value of the River Tawi by enhancing natural purifying capabilities, as well as promoting environmental and urban infrastructure sustainability.
B.R.Sharma,(IAS Retd.) Chairman IIPA JK Regional Branch presided over the function and in his presidential address said that the communication is the key and it brings clarity on the objective as well as components of Jammu Smart City Limited. During his address he talked about the infrastructural deficit that Jammu city has in terms of availability of basic amenities but the discussion has cleared the vision.
He added that Smart Cities Mission is aimed to ease the life of the urban population and believed that tech-orientated projects including GPS vehicles, Intelligent Traffic Management System will ease the life of people. He further pointed out that the interaction has given loads of information to various stakeholders and suggestions to JSCL and hoped that majority of the stakeholders shall be benefitted.
Adv Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation in her address appreciated the IIPA JKRB for organizing interaction on such an important topic and talked about the various initiatives of JMC to facilitate and improve the standard of living of people of Jammu. She announced that JMC will soon organise similar discussions to strengthen the functioning of the corporation.
During the interaction along question answer session was also held during which many queries were raised by the audience to the Addl. CEO JSCL, who answered all of them very diligently and comprehensively. A number of suggestions were also offered by the audience, which were taken positively by the Dy. CEO and assured that genuine suggestions will be executed.
Earlier, Shri K.B.Jandial, IAS (Retd) Director Seminars presented a formal welcome address, during which he mentioned various issues being faced by local peoples and helped set the tone for interaction. The interaction was attended by prominent citizens, IIPA members and Business Associations, Senior Government officers serving and retired, Shri Pankaj Magotra VC JDA, Prof Rekha Choudhary, Er M.M.Gupta, Dr C.M.Seth, IFS (Retd), Sh.Vikrant Kuthiala, Col Karan Singh, Capt Anil Gour, Er V.N.Sharma, Er S.KGupta, Mr Manik Batra and others. Additional CEO, JSCL, Hitesh Gupta gave patience hearing which was attended by IIPA members, officers of JMC, JDA, Town Planning Organization, PWD, PHE, Smart City Ltd. Senior Citizens, Pensions Association and other departments..
Prof. Alka Sharma, Honorary Secretary IIPA JKRB conducted the proceedings and presented the formal vote of thanks.
