National Statistics Day Celebrated at SKUAST Jammu

JAMMU, July 2: National statistics day as a part of weeklong nationwide celebrations of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' was celebrated by the Division of Statistics and Computer Science, SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with IDP (NAHEP) SKUAST Jammu. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu congratulated the Division for taking the initiative and organizing series of activities to celebrate NSD 2022. The theme of National Statistics Day 2022 is 'Data for Sustainable Development' which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the eminent statistician of the country Prof P.C. Mahalanobis, popularly known as the father of Statistics in India. The objective is to enable the researchers about the modern statistical techniques of Samplings, Design of Experiments, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learnings and advancement in computing facilities to handle big data with complex problems. The series of events were organized wherein on 30th of June 1st Alumni meet of students of the Division of Statistics and Computer Science was held who shared their experiences with the current aspirants of degree regarding the scope and future in Statistics as Data Doctor. It was followed by a special lecture on 01st of July delivered by Prof. V. K. Gupta, Former National Professor ICAR, who emphasized on the importance of the statistics in different fields and Quality data and quality lives in the modern era with practical examples where statistics is applicable. Dr. B.C. Sharma, Principal Investigator, IDP SKUAST Jammu appreciates Division for organizing such events and enlighten the students to look on new ideas for better lives. Professor Manish Sharma, Head of Division addressed about the contributions of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis, importance of NSD and guided students to be ready for handling the diverse and large data. The events were also attended by Prof. S.E.H. Rizvi, Dean FBSc. and Dr. Vikas Sharma, Associate Coordinator IDP SKUAST Jammu. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr M. I. J. Bhat, Assistant Professor. At the end formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sunali Mahajan.
