Department of Music, Govt GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organises Fourth online lecture under "MANTHAN"

HIRANAGAR, July 2: Department of Music Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organised fourth lecture in the series of lectures under, "Manthan". Manthan is an online lecture series from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari organised under the aegis of IQAC and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The topic of the today's lecture was, "Techniques of Riyaz (Practice) in Hindustani Vocal Music". The purpose of the lecture was to aware the students about the methodology and various techniques of Riyaz in Hindustani Vocal Music. The resource person delivered an in-depth account of the techniques of Riyaz. The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Bhupender Malhotra, Assistant Professor, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Govt. Degree College, Faridabad Haryana.
The chief guest on the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal, Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. She highly appreciated this idea of the online lecture series wherein the experts in music from diverse backgrounds from the whole country are going to participate and exchange their culture and music in coming days.
The resource person, Dr. Bhupender Malhotra also demonstrated the techniques by his live performance. He in his lecture on Techniques of Riyaz (Practice) in Hindustani Vocal Music also elaborated the culture and the folk music. Earlier the programme began with the formal welcome of the dignitaries and resource person by Dr. Arun Kumar, Head Department of Sociology. Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head, Department of Music who handled the further proceedings informed that after the completion of the whole series the Department of Music will publish the book including the papers of all the invited resource persons of the series. The entire work will be historically recorded and documented. The work and initiative would strengthen the institution at large which is the main idea, approach and philosophy of the entire concept initiated by the Department of Music under the guidance and leadership of the worthy principal Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Prof. Renu Sehgal from G.C.W. Gandhi Nagar College, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra, Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, Prof. Yash Kumar from G.C.W. Udhampur College, Prof. Shivani Raina, G.D.C Bishnah, Prof. Asha Rani, Govt. MAM College, Dr. Surinder Kumar, Dr. Santosh Kumar from Sikkim Central University, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Kiran Thappa, Prof. Manjot, Dr. Ravinder Singh and many more.
The programme was organised in consultation and support of Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college. At the end Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Music & Vikram Jamwal, Department of Physical Education presented the formal vote of thanks. Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports were also part organising team of the webinar.
