Early Times Report

Jammu, July 4: Amid conflicting reports about the timing of assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought details about the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir from local BJP leaders.
Before the conclusion of the two-day national executive committee meeting of the party Hyderabad, Prime Minister held discussions with J&K BJP leaders about the prospects of the party in the coming assembly elections.
“Prime Minister held informal discussions with J&K BJP leaders about prospects of the party in coming assembly polls but a detailed discussion in this regard was held with national president J P Nadda and general secretary (organization) B L Santosh”, sources said.
During the discussion, the central leadership of the BJP sought a detailed report constituency-wise report from the J&K leaders.
Highly placed sources in the BJP said that the party has devised a strategy to win at least 40 seats on its own to install the first-ever BJP chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that BJP is hoping to win at least eight assembly seats from Valley because the party has invested a lot in Kashmir during the last three years.
Furthermore, sources said, the party leadership is focussing on Paharies in Kashmir Valley to expand its base and to open its account in the assembly elections.
BJP discussed assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in its two-day national executive committee meeting held on July 2 and 3 at Hyderabad.
As reported earlier, J&K BJP leaders were asked by the high command to prepare a detailed report about the planning of the party to fight the assembly elections.
“Final decision regarding the time and schedule of the assembly elections in J&K will be taken only after the high command seek a report from the J&K unit”, sources said.
Pertinent to mention here that after the delimitation commission submitted its final draft report, the Election Commission of India has already initiated some steps to conduct assembly elections in J&K.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of J&K to conduct a special summary revision of electoral rolls.
The ECI has asked the J&K government to complete the process by October 31, 2022, with the final publication of electoral rolls.
