Court rejects bail in fake SIM card scam
7/6/2022 11:03:34 PM

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 6: CJM Shopian Iqbal Ahmed Akhoon has rejected the bail application of one Shafat Ahmad Shiekh who was involved in issuing fake SIM cards.
On 18-6-2022 P/S Shopian received information from reliable sources that some SIM vendors have prepared forged documents and putting the photographs of diffident people and have deceived people had issued SIM cards to earn money by illegal means. On receiving report FIR was lodged and petitioner was arrested. The petitioner has confessed before the police that he has prepared forged documents and has issued SIM cards. At the instance of petitioner police have seized a dairy being maintained by the petitioner, also seized CAF on ESU Shopian as a piece of evidence. The investigation with regard to CAF form holder is yet to be conducted.
The CJM Shopian while rejecting the bail application, observed that number of forms through which SIM cards have been issued have been recovered from the applicant and has admitted to have issued SIM cards by way of illegal means and by forged the documents which were already available to him. The offence for which the accused has been arrested are not only heinous but are serious in nature and is not only against the government but also public at large.
The judge observed that the investigation of the case is at its infancy and if the accused is enlarged on bail at the movement when the investigation of the case is going on, there is likelihood that the applicant will hamper or temper the prosecution evidence and also win over the witnesses. The police has yet to record the statement of material witnesses and yet to complete the investigation. When the investigation is going on and the accused is involved in such a heinous offence, enlarging the accused at this movement of time will be prejudicial to the investigating agency. The investigation is going on and applicant being allegedly involved in serious and heinous offence is not entitled for bail at this time.
