KVK organises training programme on SHGs

REASI, July 7: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on “Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Women Empowerment” here today at Akhali Bhutan village in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal,Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of participants. While briefing about the programme, he highlighted the concept of Self Help Group (SHG) and women empowerment. He said that Self Help Groups (SHGs) can play the significant role to empower the rural women by augmenting the income and employment among themselves. He elaborated the various income generation activities among the rural women and discussed on agri-entrepreneurship development among the SHGs. He narrated that the SHGs can transform the rural areas by uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the farm women. He further added that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and can play a crucial role in the eradication of poverty from the hilly areas. He also spoke on women empowerment and guided the participnats on the improved agricultural practices for livelihood generation.He suggested the participants to utilize the scheme benefits of the banks to start the micro-entrepreurship in rural areas. He said that group President should work democratically and she should consider the suggestions of other members of the group while in decision making of the group. He also spoke in detail on the homogeneity, fortnight meetings and proper book keeping among the SHGs members to strengthen the SHGs. The scientist also guided the participants for the entrepreneurship development in pickles making,candy making, dairy products making, value addition in pulses, vegetables ,fruits, spices, soap making, medicinal and aromatic plants processing etc. in their groups. He also discussed on the preservation technologies of seasonal fruits and vegetables and elaborated the techniques of their value addition. He stressed on the atractive packaging, leveling and branding of processed agro-products for better marketing chennels. Jyoti Devi,an awardee farm woman of the area was also present during the programme and she shared her experienes with the participants. A discussion and feedback session was also held during the programme. The participants thanked KVK,Reasi for organising such a useful programme for them. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
