BJP leaders demand early assembly polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 7: After discussing the political situation of J&K in the just concluded national executive committee meeting at Hyderabad, the core group of the party devised a strategy for the coming elections in the Union Territory. Highly placed sources in the party said that some senior leaders of the party discussed prospects of the party in the J&K if elections will be held by the end of this year. “Some party leaders cautioned that delay in assembly elections would be proved counter-productive for the party because opposition parties especially Aam Adami Party (AAP) in gaining ground in Jammu province which is a stronghold of BJP”, sources said and added that leaders were of the view the elections should be held as early as possible to form own government in J&K. Sources said that some leaders sought to draw the attention of the leadership toward the decision of the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to fight the assembly elections jointly. “Some senior leaders further cautioned that alliance between PAGD and Congress would give a strong fight to the party in many areas of Jammu province, especially in erstwhile Doda district and twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri”, a source said. As reported earlier, BJP discussed prospects of the party in assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in its two-day national executive committee meeting held on July 2 and 3 in Hyderabad. J&K BJP leaders have presented a detailed report about the planning of the party to fight the assembly elections. |
