VC SKUAST-Jammu inaugurated training for CEOs/ BOD’s of FPOs

Jammu, July 7: One day training program for BOD’s (President, Vice President and Secretary), CEOs and Accountants of nine FPO’s formed and promoted by SKUAST- Jammu was conducted in the Directorate of Extension, Main Campus SKUAST Jammu, Chatha today on 07th July 2022. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and Chief Guest on the occasion inaugurated the programme. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of FPO Cell for formation of nine FPO’s in different parts of Jammu Region funded by NCDC and NABARD. He highlighted the vision of Govt. of India for formation of Farmer Producer Organization and advised Board of Directors and CEOs for further strengthening of different activities in Farmer Producer Organizations. He further said that promoting community based processing, value addition, branding and marketing of products of FPO’s are more important for their growth as these activities can fetch higher price for their produce. Prof. Sharma emphasized on value addition and diversification so that the farmers can earn more income from different activities. Vice Chancellor in his address quoted many success stories at National level and wished FPOs under CBBO SKUAST-Jammu will flourish and become success stories of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. S.K. Gupta Director Extension and Nodal Officer FPO welcomed the Chief Guest and participants and briefed about the FPO’s formed by the SKUAST-Jammu. He also discussed about role of CBBO in formation of FPO. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Dr. Pawan Sharma, Dr. Anil Bhat, Dr. Harneet Kaur and Miss Divya Jyoti were also present on the occasion and delivered lectures on different topics viz., Key role and responsibilities of CEOs/ Accountants in management of FPOs; Importance and type of record maintenance, book-keeping, MIS; Feasibility analysis of potential business ideas and prioritization; compliance as per the legal forms of FPO and increasing membership and equity contribution for strengthening FPOs, respectively. More than 25 participants including Board of Directors, CEOs, member farmers and accountants participated in the training programme. Shri Dharambeer Singh Professional IT/MIS conducted the proceedings of the programme.
