KVK organises training programme under ARYA project at Reasi

Jammu, July 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organised training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in fruit and vegetable processing” here today at Malad village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K under the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project which was attended by a number of young women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the objectives of the ARYA(Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project and stressed on the involvement of rural youths in agriculture.He said that the value addition in seasonal fruits and vegetables can help to generate more income and employment among the rural women of hilly areas. He encouraged the participants for the processing of fruits and vegetables by which they can generate more money and improve their socio-economic conditions. He emphasized on cluster approach and stressed on the formation and strengthening of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for more profits. He narrated that the women of rural areas should jointly work for the entrepreneurship in the processed products of fruits and vegetables. He motivated the women farmers by exemplifying the successful agro-entrepreneurs in the area and encouraged them to start new agro-processing units in the rural areas.
He also guided the participants on the packaging, labeling and branding of the processed products. He discussed the benefits of processed agro-products and guided the participants on the ingredients used in the value added products of fruits and vegetables to increase their shelf life. He stressed on the commercial level value addition in fruit and vegetables for extra income generation among the rural women of hilly areas.KVK officials appreciated the participants about their efforts on locally available grass made handicrafted material. During the programme, women farmers asked certain quarries which KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was also attended by an awardee woman farmer, Sh.Bimla Devi who shared her experiences with the other participants. The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
