Termination of doctors
7/14/2022 11:13:36 PM

Last month Jammu and Kashmir Government terminated services of 112 doctors for unauthorised absence from duty. The action was taken after a long wait.
Only 12 among the terminated doctors were on probation while 100 others were away from their work places for 2 to 17 years.
Before the termination orders were issued, the absentee doctors were served show cause notices multiple times but they didn’t respond, finally the government decided to shunt them off.
The government’s decision to send absentee doctors packing is a message to one and all that after getting appointed they shouldn’t take their jobs for granted and if they are not interested in carrying forward their job they should seek voluntary retirement so that it paves way for others to get appointed. Keeping the posts blocked cannot be tolerated.
It’s unfortunate that instead of serving the people, doctors remained absent from duties for a period ranging from 2 to 17 years.
It is quite regrettable and unacceptable. Such defiant and reckless conduct even during the crucial probation period by them is wrong. By not even reporting for duties after being selected and appointed is even more erroneous.
All these years these doctors remained in service of the Jammu and Kashmir Government and they did not seek formal relieving by tendering resignation etc which is against the law.
The termination of 112 doctors has led to these many posts becoming available. As it’s J&K is facing dearth of the doctors.
The government’s decision is in the larger interests of people, who were suffering on account of shortage of doctors in the hospitals. These doctors had no justification for remaining absent without any valid cause.
Besides bleeding the state exchequer these doctors were responsible for making people suffer.
The action of the government has surely prevented some employees from coming back after remaining absent for years and joining duties to claim all kinds of benefits.
The government has driven home a point that the doctors cannot sail in two boats. They can’t have the cake and eat it too. Either they have to serve in J&K or they have to serve in other countries.
