GDC Jourian oragnises a contest on the preparation of 'Minjaraans' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 16: Govt. Degree College Jourian oragnised a contest on the preparation of 'Minjaraans' (Sakolade) to celebrate 'Rutt Raade' festival in the Dogra culture during the holy month of Saawan (Shravan) in collaboration with Department of Dogri, Activity and Cultural Affairs Committee, and IQAC under Shikshit Bharat Programme to promote Gandhian Thoughts and Values. The objective of the programme was to make the younger generation familiar with Dogra festivals and their social and religious significance. Principal Prof. Kuldeep Raj Sharma stated that Sawan is the month of rain which brings lots of happiness and is associated with the celebration of different festivals in Dogra culture. He further highlighted that the festival is related with the folk art where in 'Minjaraans' or (Sakolade) are prepared and presented to the young girls and newly married brides to wear on the shirts and in the ears as part of celebration of the festival. He emphasized that this festival helps to strengthen social bonds among the different sections of the society. He expressed his concern that younger generation is ignorant about this beautiful and colourful festival in our culture and assured that such programmes will help in the promotion of Dogra Culture. 17 students from different semesters participated in the contest. Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Dr. Vandana Rajput, Prof. Sushma Kumari judged the performance of the students. Lalita Devi secured first position, Elbee and Anjali Mehra bagged second position where as Mansi, Muskan Mehra, Sonia Bharti bagged third position respectively.
