He said that damages by the flash floods resulted in heavy losses to the people despite there being a full-fledged Disaster Management Department to tackle such situations. He said that huge funds are claimed to be granted by the Union Govt for disaster management in Jammu and Kashmir.
Javed Rana said that the affected people told him that they have suffered heavy losses due to the incessant rains and resultant flash floods with their properties livestock and crops having been washed away as a result of the natural calamity. Some of the people said that they don't have even roof over their heads for a proper shelter after damage to their properties, he added.
The senior National Conference leader appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Administration to come out of slumber and become proactive to address the burning issues of the people in Pirpanjal region that have abruptly erupted after incessant rains and flash floods.
Javed Rana appealed to the Lt Governor to come to the rescue of the people in distress in this crisis situation. He sought immediate assessment of the damages caused to the people individually and working out the exact compensation payable to the victims of weather vagary. In the meantime, he demanded that the government announce interim relief to these rain and flood effected people that would be adjusted against the exact compensation package worked out on individual basis. He demanded that the Govt must immediately rush its teams especially the officials of the Revenue Department to the affected areas to assess the losses to people due to flash floods to work out adequate compensation to the victim families.
Meanwhile, the NC leader also appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to take immediate measures to streamline the Disaster Management System in the area by keeping the concerned Department officials on toes to face such situations without any delay so that such damages are averted in future.
