Early Times Report

Jammu, July 28: In a bid to gear up the ongoing process of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi is contemplating another “major offensive” against terror in the valley soon.
Sources said the central government has recently discussed the issue of “major offensive” against the terror network at a high level meeting, particularly in Kashmir region. Sources said the offensive was likely to be launched in the second half of the month of August when around 350 additional companies of central armed police forces, presently deployed for a specific duty in the valley, would be relieved of that existing assignment.
A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that in the wake of extraordinary security arrangements for some ongoing events of religious significance coupled with the preparedness for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, “the movement and activities of the terror groups have been paralyzed.”
“See given the security preparedness across the region, while most them (terrorists) have already been neutralized, others, a few of whom are still alive, are already too scared to come out of their rat holes. But they don’t know that we’ll take all them by surprise very soon,” said the official said adding the government was committed to the complete restoration of peace and prosperity in the region. He said the prevalent security preparedness has given a message that another mega crackdown against terror was need of the hour and that the services of additional companies of the armed forces should be utilized for the same before they leave their present place of deployment. It’s pertinent to mention that Kashmir is already reaping major benefits of the improvement of the situation in the valley since the abrogation of the so called special status of J&K on August 5, 2019.
Recently the Modi government told the Parliament that around 1.5 crore tourists have visited the region in the first six months of 2022 alone giving a major economic boost to the people of Kashmir in particular.
Observers said the “improvement of national sentiment is such that for the first time the people of Kashmir held numerous events to celebrate the Kargil Vijay Divas and hailed the role of Indian Army.”
“The bonhomie between the people of Kashmir and the Indian Army has also been on rise as the Modi government managed to destroy the shops of anti-national forces who had been active in the region for the last over three decades.”
