Has Cong high-command decided to retain G A Mir as J&K Cong Prez ? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1: Even though Ghulam Ahmad Mir had submitted his resignation as Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee chief on July 5, the party is still treating him as party president for the J&K unit. An official handout issued by the party on Monday mentioned G A Mir as party president. “Poor people are becoming poorer, the developmental process has received severe setbacks, despite public outcry, BJP Govt at Centre seems insensitive to the genuine issues concerning people in Jammu and Kashmir. J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad Mir made these comments while addressing a series of party workers’ meetings in Kapran, Ringmandoo, and Khadar areas of Dooru Verinag in South Kashmir”, the handout reads. Mentioning Mir’s name in bold letters as “President J&K Congress” raised many eyebrows because his (Mir’s) resignation is already accepted by the high command. After submitting his resignation on July 5, Mir has first time issued a handout. And more interestingly his name has been mentioned as “President J&K Congress”. Important to mention here that after acceptance of Mir’s resignation, former minister Raman Bhalla is officiating as president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress but today’s handout has created confusion and chaos among party leaders and workers. As reported earlier , the Congress high command is hesitating to announce his replacement due to intense infighting among senior leaders. Struggling to maintain its presence felt in the Union Territory after the worst-ever debacle in two successive Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019, and 2014 assembly polls, J&K Congress is divided among groups within groups. Not only J&K Congress is divided between Ghulam Ahmad Mir and former leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad factions, serious differences have cropped up among leaders who owe their allegiance to Azad. Wishing anonymity a former minister told that two-time MLA from Banihal and ex-minister Vakar Rasool was the front-runner for the post of PCC chief but the high command is hesitating to announce the name of a new PCC chief due to differences among loyalists of Azad. “Vakar Rasool is a loyalist of Azad but his (Azad’s) other loyalists are also opposing Vakar’s name for PCC chief”, sources said and added that it was all due to opposition by Azad loyalists that the high-command is hesitating to announce Vakar’s name. |
