High alert sounded in Udhampur-Ramban stretch to foil terrorist movement
8/4/2022 11:55:38 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 4: In the wake of intelligence inputs of “terrorist movement” ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, a high alert has been sounded in the adjoining Ramban and Udhampur districts of Jammu province.
Highly placed sources said the intelligence agencies have inputs of the possible terror movement in the twin districts falling along the strategic national highway between Srinagar and Jammu.
Sources said the government has received credible inputs about the movement of the terrorists in the area and that the recent blast in Ramban was a part of the same terror plot.
Sources said the government has launched a probe to know if it was being done by foreign terrorists or that the ones hiding in Kashmir are behind the plot.
On August 2, Ramban district SSP Mohita Sharma said: “A suspicious blast took place inside Ind police post in Gool area around 5 or 5:30am this morning. The explosive was hurled inside the police post.”
“As of now we are not sure if it was a grenade but the blast took place inside the police post. Luckily, there were no injuries to anyone. We have initiated investigations,” she had added. Following the explosion, the police post had fired several gunshots.
In March this year, a bomb blast had taken place in the garrison town of Udhampur. In June subsequently, three men from Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda and Ramban districts were arrested in connection with the explosion in Udhampur on March 9 that killed one person and injured 16.
The Ramban area, on the other hand, has remained a hotbed of militancy in the past around two decades ago when least 11 policemen and two VDC (Village Defence Committees) members were killed to avenge killing of Hizb’s commander Amanullah Peer. The attack was planned by UJC chief Salahuddin which saw 15-20 armed terrorists had attacked the police post in remote Ind village of Ramban district on the night of March 15, 2004.
A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that the police and other security forces were fully prepared to foil any nefarious designs of the terror groups. “Such alerts are raised to beef up the security even further that too for the safety and security of the people in particular.”
