Everyone must buy one cloth made of handloom this week: Khajuria

JAMMU, Aug 9: To promote country made fabric and handloom products, Romesh Khajuria, Chairman, Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India made a fervent appeal to citizens to purchase at least one cloth made of handloom during this week.
He was speaking during a function organised by Adileela Foundation Trust Helene in New Delhi on the eve of National Handloom day where Khajuria was chief guest while Rafiq Shah, former MLC Jammu & Kashmir was guest of honour.
Khajuria said that people must support the artesians and craftsmen engaged in development of Handloom products. Khajuria further added that India's handloom sector signifies the rich and diverse cultural heritage.
He said in 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 7 as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi movement that began in 1905 on this day and to revive the ancient Indian art.
"It is also aimed at encouraging the countrymen to use handloom products woven by the indigenous weavers. On this 8th National Handloom Day, let us join hands to further the Modi government's resolve to preserve and promote our handloom heritage and empower our handloom weavers, especially women," he said in a message.
Earlier, Khajuria conducted an extensive tour of Kahsmir where he met wool growers, farmers and artisan of Kashmir. The visiting officer discussed the development of Wool based produce in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khajuria also met Anu Priya Patel, Minister of State for Commerce & Industries, Govt of India, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Sunita Dawra, Secretary, Govt. of India, Santosh Kumar Sarangi Director General, Foriegn Trade, GOI, other senior officers from government of India.
Meeting were also held with Atal Dullo, Additional Chief Secretary & Financial Commissioner, J&K, Vivek Bhardwaj, Additional Chief Secretary department of Industries & Commerce, J&K, Devansh Yadav, Managing Director, JKTPO and other officers from Govt. of J&K.
Khajuria discussed the roadmap of development of wool and woolen based produce that will cater to the international market.
He also assured all support to the Jammu and Kashmir government from the council.
