After August 5, fresh cracks appear in PAGD
8/9/2022 11:27:01 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 8: Fresh cracks have surfaced in the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration since August 5, 2022 when the PAGD leadership “couldn’t come up with a unified program on its mission.”
Sources said the internal bickering in the PAGD has only intensified and that the fissures in the amalgam were only exposed on August 5. On the fateful day whereas former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party, President, Mehbooba Mufti had led roadside protests outside her PDP office in Srinagar, the National Conference avoided any such protests in Kashmir.
Her counterpart and National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah on the other hand had preferred to hold a meeting at his Nawa Subh office. As the NC didn’t hold any protests in Kashmir, later in the evening some party cadres had held candlelight vigil in the winter capital of Jammu. Sources said the NC held protests in Jammu only to counter “gossip as to why the party had remained silent in Kashmir.”
Subsequently Dr Abdullah flew to the national capital where he was seen exchanging pleasantries with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The picture of informal interaction between Dr Abdullah and Modi had gone viral on the social media.
The CPI-M which is also a part of the PAGD “wasn’t seen doing much on the fateful.” The Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone, on the other hand, has already quit the PAGD. The Peoples Movement founded by bureaucrat turned politician Shah Faesal has also parted ways with the PAGD.
The sources said the “contradicting actions” of the leadership constituting the PAGD has led to widening of gap among its constituents yet again.
In the past also the PAGD has remained in news for internal bickering from time to time.
In November2021, Mehbooba said PAGD was formed “solely to safeguard the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Taking to Twitter, Mufti said that assuming the alliance was created for petty electoral gains or to further party interests is erroneous.
“PAGD was formed solely to safeguard the identity of people of J and K that’s been under constant attack since Aug 2019. To assume it was created for petty electoral gains or to further party interests is erroneous. We have a bigger cause to fight for than bicker over DDC elections,” Mufti tweeted.
The PAGD was formed in August 2021, after which National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah was chosen the president of the alliance, and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti as its vice-president.
