JAMMU, Aug 12: Harman Cultural and Educational Society, Jammu celebrated Raksha Bandhan and Shri Krishna Janamasthmi at the premises of Harman complex here.
On the occasion, Vikram Randhawa, Former Legislator and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was the chief guest.
Children and youth of Harman Dance Institute presented beautiful performance which was appreciated by the chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
The Former Legislator wished good luck to children for future competitions.
On this occasion, Poonam Handa, renowned choreographer was honoured by the chief guest and Rajesh was also honoured by Former Legislator.
Gurvinder Kour, General Secretary, Harman Cultural and Educational Society and Tajinder Singh, President were present as guests of honour on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, Former Legislator threw light on the importance of Raksha Bandhan and Shri Krishna Janamashtami.
Former Legislator said that the Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by Hindus.
"Shri Krishna is thought to have been born in 3228 BC. His birthday is celebrated eight days after Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters", Randhawa added.
While going deep into the history of Raksha Bandhan, Former Legislator said that this festival in Bundelkhand gives a unique message of communal harmony.
"Maharani Laxmi Bai in the revolution of 1857, she had sought help from Nawab Ali Bahadur by sending a Rakhi. Nawab Ali Bahadur accepted the Rakhi and gave her the status of his sister", he informed.
Former Legislator further stated that on this day, the sisters tie Rakhi on their brother's wrists and wish them a long, prosperous and happy life. In return, the brothers promise to protect their sisters throughout their life.
"At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for Har Ghar Tiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our Tricolour", Randhawa said, adding that "I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same".
He added that 'Har Ghar Tiranga' is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's independence.
