Yet another rebellion hits Cong
8/17/2022 10:52:57 PM

The Congress high command appointing Viqar Rasool, close aide of former J&K chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, as Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief has led to yet another rebellion in the party.
A few leaders have threatened to quit the party stating that they cannot work under a junior leader like Viqar Rasool. Name of the new JKPCC chief, according to the media reports, was recommended by Azad as he declined the offer of the high command to assume the charge himself.
Rebellion over Viqar’s appointment has once again brought the Congress Party on the crossroads as it appears that the dust has not settled and things may not fall in place for the “grand old party” in the Union Territory.
The party which shared power for 12 consecutive years i.e. from 2002 to 2014 in J&K, first with the Congress, then with the National Conference is finding it hard to even exist as most of its leaders, including former ministers, have said goodbye to the party and the ones who are left are finding it hard to tolerate each other. There is no unity among them and it seems that only leaders are left in the J&K Congress and no one wants to be a worker.
The Congress in J&K is in dire straits, Azad will have to intervene to prevent its further division. He has to make an attempt to keep the flock together as it appears that after Viqar’s Rasool appointment as the JKPCC chief the trouble has deepened for the Congress Party.
If the unhappy leaders are not taken into confidence the party may end up losing a few more faces who could have helped the Congress to regain some of its lost ground in Jammu and Kashmir.
By appointing Viqar as the JKPCC chief the Congress high command has put the ball in the court of Azad and now it’s upto him to deal with the situation. Azad’s grievance about him being sidelined from J&K affairs has been redressed, now he has to handle the situation and prepare the J&K unit of his party for the forthcoming assembly elections in the Himalayan region.
