JAMMU, Aug 20: Directorate of Animal Husbandry today organised an interactive webinar for farmers to update them on prevention of Lumpy Skin Disease in dairy animals
The event was hosted on the direction of Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Krishan Lal, and was chaired by Chief Executive Officer, Livestock Development Board Jammu, Dr. Tariq Parvez and attended, among others, by experts from NDRI Karnal and SKUAST Jammu.
In his welcome address, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Dr. Javed Katoch outlined the importance of spreading awareness and motivation among farmers for prevention and control of this highly infectious disease among dairy animals.
Dr. Gopal Gowane, Senior Scientist, NDRI Karnal gave a detailed powerpoint presentation covering most of the aspects of the disease including proper care and management of animals affected by it.
Dr. Rajinder Bharadwaj, Associate Professor, SKUAST-Jammu, while speaking on the occasion, cleared the doubts about line of treatment to be followed in affected animals as per the severity of the disease, thus reducing the overall costs incurred by farmers over treatments, to a great extent.
Technical session was followed by an interactive session wherein farmers raised their queries regarding various issues related to the spread of the disease and its control which were responded to farmers' satisfaction by the experts present.
Responding to the queries related to vaccinations, the CEO Livestock Development Board Jammu informed the farmers that the vaccine-procurement process was in its final stage and the mass vaccinations shall commence shortly in the entire Jammu division.
All Chief Animal Husbandry officers, farmers in good numbers from across the districts of Jammu province besides officers from Directorate of Animal Husbandry Jammu also joined the webinar.
