Eleventh Lecture of Manthan held at GDC Hiranagar

HIRANAGAR, Aug 20: Department of Music Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organised 11th online lecture under the series named "Manthan". The idea of Manthan was conceived ten weeks back in which online lecture from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari were planned to be executed on weekly basis. The programme was held under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The lecture was on the topic Odissi Sangeet: Pracheen Bhartiya Shastriya Sangeet Ki Analochit Poorvi Dhara.
The Chief Guest of the programme was Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna Principal of the College. She highly appreciated the idea of the series of online lectures by the Department of Music every week. The resource person for the lecture Mr. Pradteek Pattnaik hailed from Odisha is a research scholar and musician. He is famous for the writings and talks on the culture of Odisha. He has a special focus on the tradition of Jagannatha Temple the literature related to Music. He elaborated the details of Odissi Music and also compared it with other music of other parts of the nation. He also explained the tradition and culture of Jagannatha temple. With a power point presentation he elaborated and depicted the literature and tradition of sung and also enthralled the audience by singing a few traditional bandishes of Odissi Music.
Earlier, the programme begun with the formal welcome address by Dr. Bharat Bhushan Head, Department of Music. Dr. Bharat also reiterated the project of compilation of all the proceedings and articles from all the lectures into a book form. The work and initiative would be a contribution to the knowledge and literature in the field of music which would further strengthen the institution at large. The project is encouraged and supported by the worthy Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna. The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Principal Govt. Degree College Mahanpur, Prof. Renu Sehgal from GCW Gandhi Nagar College, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra, from GCW Udhampur College, Prof. Lawanaya Kirti Singh from Bihar, Dr. Nishtha Sharma and Prof. Asha Rani, Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Sangita Panda from Odisha, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Mukesh Kumar and many more. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks tothespeakerand the audience by Dr. Bharat Bhushan. The programme was organized together with Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
