KVK Reasi organizes exposure visit for trainees

REASI, Sept 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day exposure visit for the trainees of 15 days certificate course on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) here today at organic farmers fields in Kansi Patta and Kans Brahmna villages of Pouni block in Reasi distt. of J&K. The visit was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi addressed the participants about the importance of organic and natural farming in present era and showcased the various technologies used by the organic farmers of area. He apprised the participants about the efforts of KVK, Reasi on promoting organic farming/natural farming in the area. During the visit organic turmeric and ginger fields, organic vegetables fields, organic formulations etc. of progressive organic farmers of the area were demonstrated to the trainees. The progressive organic farmers shared their experiences on organic farming with the trainees and discussed on organic inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavaya, cow urine, mulching practices, Fermented Butter Milk, Neem products, Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost etc. utilized by them in organic farming. The progressive organic farmers highlighted their farm activities, economic returns and constraints faced while doing the organic farming/natural farming. Dr.Banarsi narrated that KVK, Reasi is upgrading the knowledge of the organic farmers through awareness/ training programmes, Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs), On Farmers Trials (OFTs), exposure visits etc. He expressed that KVK, Reasi is endevouring to promote the natural farming in the area so that the chemical free food can be produced. He added that natural farming is the need of the hour for the safety of environment and maintenance of biodiversity on the earth. He also discussed on the crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc. in the organic farming. Farmer-to-farmer interaction and a group discussion meeting on organic farming and natural farming was also organized during the visit. The trainees asked various quarries which were answered satisfactorily by the organic farmers and KVK Scientist. Trainees were highly impressed by observing the successful results of progressive organic farmers of the area and learnt various facts of organic farming. Manohar Lal of KVK, Reasi assisted in arranging logistics and mobilising the trainees for the visit. The visit was culminated by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
