Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 6: A joint delegation of Federation of Hotels, Restaurants, Industries & Commerce of Jammu Region and Hotel & Restaurant Association, Katra comprising of their President Rakesh Wazir and Sr.Vice President FHRICJR & President Patnitop Hotels Association Kushal Magotra met Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary Industries & Commerce department, J&K Vivek Bhardwaj and apprised him of the issues pertaing to Business sector and Hotel and service sector in particular.
Rakesh Wazir while speaking on the occasion said that since Hotels are being covered by Industries Department and are registered as well by the Industries Department and thus as envisaged by the Central & Union Government of J&K again & again for giving encouragement to the ease of doing business, the process of dual registration i.e. Registration with Industries department as well as with the department of Tourism both, be dispensed with and Hotels Registration be kept with department of Industries only and department of Tourism should concentrate its all energies in promotion of Tourism only as is being done in various states.
He further said that Katra and around which includes Reasi & Udhampur districts including Patnitop, Shiv Khori, Katra etc. have huge potential to attract private viable investment but the need of the hour is this that we may show the investors the projects which may add on to the Tourism potential of our Union Territory and provide maximum employment to the people and may increase the stay of the Yatries and make Katra and around as hub of Tourism and business and should be cleared in the first go.He said that investors are ready for making investment in viable projects around Katra like Shiv Khori rope way,Water amusement park at Jhajjar Kotli, Light & sound on the history of Maa Vaishno Devi ji and many more on private government partnership basis and if the things are expedieted, we can see results within months.
Kushal Magotra while speaking on the occasion said that since Tourism is the back bone of our Union Territory thus service Industry connected with Tourism which includes Hotels etc.constitute big component of that and is part of Industry and thus all Industrial Benefits needs to be extended to Hotel Sector as well like the Industrial Power Tariff benefit i.e. Power at par with Industrial rates, which was sanctioned for the year 2018-19 for Hospitality sector by J&K Government and was further validated upto March-2019 by SAC ,that needs to be validated and extended once for all so that Hotels may get power at Industrial rates, similarly when GST was introduced in J&K there was no VAT or any other tax on Hotels and it was assured that GST reimbursement will be made to Hotels but nothing of the sort is made till today and be started.
Wazir while concluding said that Industrial Parks around Katra which are already identified be started at the earliest and more are required to be explored with open usage (except non polluting) products particularly related to Vaishnodevi pilgrimage, Ayurved and products whose raw material is available around Katra like Chavanprash,Packed Vaishnodevi Prasads,Dry Fruits,Local Pickles, Masalas, Packed Honey, Vaishnodevi Patkas, Jute Bags, Vaishnodevi Chunries, Vaishnodevi Photographs etc.be made.
Bhardwaj listened the delegation patiently and assured that every effort would be made to redress the issues raised in the meeting at the earliest.
