GDC Kathua organises screening of Educational Film and Book Reading

Jammu, Sept 9: Govt Degree College Kathua organized the screening of Educational Film and Book Reading on 8th and 9th September, 2022 as part of Teachers’ Day Celebration Programme. The principal, GDC Kathua, Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia, was the chief guest of the event. The honorable Principal, addressed the gathering with his kind and valuable thoughts on the role of film based on education in transforming the society. He stressed that cinema can easily change people’s opinion and their outlook on life. Good films almost always impact the viewer. The overall impact and influence that cinema has on our society is immense. He also laid stress on the need of reading good educational books to widen their horizon of knowledge. He discussed that reading is essential as it serves as a basic building block for learning, it strengthens the brain and improves memory. He also added that it’s a great initiative by JK Higher Education for coming up with the idea of the educational film screening and book reading.
In the event, 5 short films were screened for the students and the teachers. The movies were, “Happy Teachers’ Day- Abdul Kalam’s Speech”, “APJ Abdul Kalam’s success mantra for all the students”, a clip from, “Taare Zameen Par”, “A Teachers’ Day” and “Shramphalam”. All five short films discussed about the importance of a teacher. The day is important for the students as it gives them a chance to understand the efforts put in by their teachers to ensure that they get proper education. The event was followed by Book reading which was organized for the students of various streams and semesters. The aim of the book reading function was to hone the reading skills of the students and to motivate them to discover their inner passion and creativity. Students showed their enthusiasm through their participation. Senior faculty members Prof. Romila Guleria, Prof. Rakesh Singh and faculty members from various departments also graced the occasion with their presence. The whole event was coordinated by Ms. Apoorva Sharma, student of Semester-1V with the support of Dr. Seema Malpotra, Convener, Literary Activities and members of the committee Prof. Raj Kiran, Dr. Anupma Arora, Dr. Shubh Kumar, Dr. Chetna Gupta, Dr. Amita Dua, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Ambica, Dr. Rachna, Dr. Eva Sharma, Dr. Nitasha Baloria and Prof. Rakhi Malhotra. The program concluded with the vote of thanks.
