Farming turns hi tech in J&K
9/13/2022 10:55:14 PM

During the past few years farmers in Jammu and Kashmir are using technology to increase their yield and are making attempts to change the agricultural landscape of the Union Territory.
Farmers use technology at multiple levels across the world including in many parts of the country. After the abrogation of Article 370, the J&K Government has emphasized on introducing technology into the farming sector to help the people associated with the agriculture and the horticulture sector.
New innovations have helped in increasing the crop yield, stabilizing production, and making crops resistant to pests and ecological changes. Improvement in the post-harvesting shelf life has also improved.
The J&K Government is focusing on training farmers to use advanced technology like artificial intelligence and other practices that can increase their income manifold.
Digital Agriculture Mission, Agristack, has been implemented in J&K to revolutionize the Agriculture sector. The introduction of modern technology aided by globally acclaimed practices is producing extraordinary results in terms of both the quality and quantity of their yield.
The administration is trying its best to bridge the divide between agriculture and technology. The farmers are being provided with real time information and solutions to their problems. Efforts are being put in to make the process of end to end digitization a success so that the farmers do not have to look for different services and solutions here and there.
Different interventions like digitization of land records, availability of expert opinions, farm practices guided by modern technology and techniques besides use of high yielding varieties of agricultural inputs has doubled the farmers income during the past three years. The steps being taken by the government are aimed at doubling the agricultural GDP in next ten years in Jammu and Kashmir. Farming is being turned into a highly remunerative and gainful profession.
In the recent past many youth have come forward with their proposals in agriculture and horticulture sectors. Their innovative ideas are being implemented and the government is providing them with all the support and help needed to turn their dreams into a reality.
The government is also providing technological support to confront inclement weather conditions. Weather alerts are being sounded well in advance to ensure that farmers remain prepared and equipped to deal with any situation. The incorporation of technology into the agriculture and horticulture sector is all set to change the lives of farmers.
