Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 13: In yet another low, the drug addicts in Kashmir in the latest have looted a homeless old man after beating him in the heart of the summer capital here.
A senior police official told the Early Times that while complaints of drug addiction were on rise in Kashmir, the “way drug addicts grab money was becoming even shocking for the society on the whole.”
The police official said at around midnight of September 10 two youth reached Lal Chowk only to beat an homeless old man from whom they grabbed money for drugs.
The police official identified the accused duo as Furqaan Majeed Khan of Kani Pora Srinagar and Danish Manzoor of Sopore, both of whom have been arrested after registration of FIR.
The police said the incident which took place in the dead of the dark had seen the old man lie in a pool of blood till he was rescued by police from the deserted road.
The police official said it was only through electronic evidence that the duo could be identified and subsequently got arrested during raids.
The police official said during the questioning of the accused the police got to know that the two “could do anything to get money to buy drugs.”
“They are drug addicts and criminal minded and wouldn’t mind to even kill anyone for money to get drugs,” the police official said.
Recently some of the drug addicts had looted money from a place of religious significance in Kashmir and were subsequently caught by police.
Meanwhile a section of the society has been blaming the families for rise in crime cases.
“The blame also lies on the families in Kashmir who in the last thirty years of Pakistan sponsored terrorism forgot family values and let their kids get spoiled,” said a Kashmir University professor.
Its pertinent to mention that crime cases have witnessed a spike in Kashmir in the last few years.
