Workshop on RUCO and other initiatives held at Katra by Food Safety, DFCO,Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 14: On the directions of Sh.Shakeel-ul-Rehman (IAS) Commissioner, FDA, J&K the team of Food Safety DFCO led by Joint Commissioner FDA J&K including Deputy Commissioner Food Safety Jammu Division,Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety District Jammu, Nodal Officer, RUCO, Jammu & the Food Safety Officers of District jammu and Reasi in collaboration with KNP Arises Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. Jaipur today visited to Katra venued at Ashoka Venkat Hall Katra & organised a mega level workshop on RUCO in which more than 300 participants including Food business operators, Stakeholders, Hoteliers, Dhaba walas, Street vendors, Katra Mata Shrine Board catering Staff and other sections of Food Bussiness Fraternities took part in this workshop.
The Inaugural session of the workshop started with the National Athem with full vigour & enthusiasm. During the workshop focus was laid mainly on Awareness on the initiative called RUCO which reveal that Edible vegetable oils are used in frying of Foods and during frying & cooking ,the quantity of oil deteriorates. And the practice of reheating Cooking oil or using the same Cooking oil for frying again is commonly found, cooking oil is oftenly repeatedly used by topping with fresh oil and using the same oil reputedly for frying leads to changes in the physio-Chemical, Nutritional and sensory properties of the Oil which lead to the formation of Total Polar Compound(TPC) which nake the Oil, Unit for human consumption beyond certain limits. These toxic compounds lead to several diseases like Hypertension, atherosclersosis, Alizhrimer 's diseases, liver diseases and cause problems as well as hazardous health effects among public.
Therefore, in order to safeguard the public health, FSSAI has notified the TPC not more than 25% beyond and has luanch EEE strategy including Eduction, Enforcement & Ecosystem which will curb the illegal practice & ensure good health & welfare for the Nation. And hence National Policy on Biofuels 2018 has been set & FSSAI has enumerated the guidelines of the Notification.
To aware the participants today the lectures at broad spectrum were delivered by the concerned authorities of the Department ,during the session on power point different informative visual on RUCO & other Initiatives of FSSAI were displayed, information pamphlets were distributed amongst the participants. Besides toll free no 104 was also share / displayed to redress any related Grievances or regarding awareness about Food Safety .pertinently, as per Schedule 4 of FSSA part V- specific Hygienic and Sanitary practices were elaborated point by point and at the end of the Day question Answer session was also fixed for more clarity which remained quite interesting. Finally, the FBO'S were given awareness that to keep the reused oil reserved /stored for the aggregators or collection agencies who have been registered to buy the same for Biodiesel.
Finally,it was asserted that RUCO is a project that plans to convert vegetable oils, animal fats into Biodiesel.
