Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 5: In a significant development, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah got a rousing welcome in Baramulla on Wednesday even as thousands of people from across Kashmir especially the Pahari community attended his maiden rally here.
Convoys of buses and other vehicles kept pouring in the frontier town since the early morning hours with the scores of people trying to rush in to the venue before the visiting dignitary would arrive for his speech, which started at around 12:30 PM as the Home Minister reached here after reviewing a crucial security meeting in the summer capital.
A senior official told the Early Times that thousands of buses apart from other vehicles poured into Baramulla town from every nook and corner of the valley amid tight security arrangements.
Apart from the common Kashmiri, a significant number of Pahari people had rushed into the venue, where apart from other leaders, BJP JK President Ravinder Raina had been personally managing the arrangements for the last few days.
Meanwhile the Pahari people were more than jubilant to attend his rally even as many of them said “It’s beyond political ideology as Amit Shah Ji has met our long pending and genuine demand of ST Status.”
Senior Pahari leader, Syed Shabir Gilani who had appealed the community to ensure presence at Amit Shah’s rally said: “It was our moral responsibility to attend Shri Amit Shah Ji’s rally as he has done justice with us by assuring grant of ST status something that was denied to us by successive regimes.”
Gilani, who had reached the venue early morning to manage entry of the community people into the rally venue said every village of Pahari community had ensured representation at the rally.
“The Modi government has done something historic for us and we wanted to reciprocate accordingly by giving Shri Amit Shah Ji a historic welcome in Baramulla,” Gilani maintained.
The Baramulla rally was held on third and last day of Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
