Assembly election on cards in J&K: Azad’s DAP applies for party symbol
10/9/2022 11:04:20 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 9: While veteran politician, Ghulam Nabi Azad recently floated his political party the Democratic Azad Party, the DAP has applied for party symbol before the Election Commission of India –giving another hint of the Assembly elections of being held in the coming months.
Sources said Ghulam Nabi Azad applied for a symbol of his choice but that he has been asked to give three options for the symbol.
“They (ECI) people have told us to give three options for the symbol and that one of them would be approved depending on the priority of the three entries given by us,” said the source.
While the party is tight lipped on the issue, the leadership is understood to have applied for the symbol, which “touches the common man’s life.”
Sources said while some of the politicians from Kashmir had proposed that apple be kept the symbol, but that they were told the symbol has already been registered with the ECI by another party. “Otherwise also nowadays apple is more of a symbol for style statement and that wouldn’t go proper with the local aspirations of the common people,” said a DAP leader on the condition of anonymity.
He said all the symbols have been submitted before the ECI in the national capital after marathon meetings recently held in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Out of over two dozen proposals for the party symbol three were shortlisted in presence of him (Azad),” said a party leader on the condition of anonymity.
Its pertinent to mention that within a fortnight of the floating of the political party, Azad applied for its registration with the ECI. And now he has also applied for the party symbol.
Its pertinent to mention that the Union Home, Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir hinted at the holding of the Assembly elections soon after the ongoing process of formulation of the electoral rolls is completed by November.
The much-awaited poll bugle is to be sounded by the ECI.
