KVK Samba organized three Awareness Programmes

JAMMU, Oct 31: SKUAST Jammu has already launched fourth phase of Back to Village programme through all the nine KVKs. KVK Samba under Jan Abhiyan Programme, organized two Awareness programmes under the theme "Natural farming and Centrally sponsored schemes" at Village ratwana and Ramgarh of Samba District in which more than 100 participants including farmers actively participated in the programmes. The programmes were conducted as per the instructions Director Extension Prof. Surinder Kumar Gupta and guidance of Prof. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist, Entomology and coordinator of the training programme at village Ratwana briefed the importance of Natural Farming as it offers a solution to various problems, such as food insecurity, farmers' distress, and health problems arising due to pesticide and fertilizer residue in food and water, global warming, climate change and natural calamities. It also has the potential to generate employment, thereby stemming the migration of rural youth. He further added that Natural Farming aims to make farming viable and aspirational by increasing net incomes of farmers on account of cost reduction, reduced risks, similar yields, incomes from intercropping.
Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist Agricultural Engineering and coordinator of the training programme at village Ramgarh discussed in detail about the various welfare schemes of central and state governments in agriculture. He explained the importance of soil and water conservation. He also told the farmers that Soil and water are two important natural resources and the basic needs for agricultural production and Soil conservation is a key to environmental sustainability.
Dr. Neerja Sharma Senior Scientist Horticulture delivered the lecture on organic crop production of Rabi vegetables. She emphasized upon the use of various organic sources like FYM, Vermicompost, vermiwash, biofertilizers etc. Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma Scientist (Animal Sciences) also sensitized about the different parasitic diseases of livestock, their prevention and control strategies. He also discussed the role of organic matter produced from cattle and poultry. Dr. Shalini Khajuria Programme Assistant, KVK Samba emphasized the importance of soil in agricultural productivity. She stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques to promote soil health.
