KVK organizes awareness programme on natural farming

SAMBA, Nov 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba of She-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu organized Awareness programme on "Natural Farming" at Block Rajpura of district Samba under the dynamic leadership of Professor. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J and the supervision of Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief scientist & Head, KVK Samba. More than 50 farmers from different villages of Block Rajpura of district Samba have actively participated in the programme. On this occasion quality seed of chickpea as well as Mustard were promoted and distributed among the farmers under Natural Farming. Initially the program was started by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba. He welcomed all the farmers and highlighted the importance of Natural farming in agriculture particularly in Samba district. He stressed upon the need to grow crops by adopting natural farming practices in order to ensure the conservation of soil health and make agriculture more profitable. He also told the farmers that the main objective of front line demonstration is to demonstrate newly released crop production and protection technologies and management practices at the farmers' fields under different agro- climatic regions and farming situations.
On this occasion Asha Rani, DDC member Rajpura was also present, she laid stress on Natural Farming in this area and thanked to SKUAST-Jammu as well as Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba for choosing their area for the promoting the Natural Farming. Dr. Neerja Sharma Senior Scientist Horticulture discussed in detail about the Chickpea and Mustard farming by using efficient resources of Natural Farming to sustain livelihood. She discussed in detail about natural resources, especially those of soil and water, plant diversity, vegetation cover, renewable energy sources. Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist Agricultural Engineering discussed laid stress on Watershed development, Rainwater harvesting and enhancing water productivity.
Dr. Saurav Gupta Scientist Entomology discussed in detail about the various control measures of insect pests and diseases through IPM and IDM modules in the major field crops, vegetables and fruit crops. He also discussed about different ways to control various insects -pests and diseases of Chickpea and Mustard through Natural farming techniques, He also stressed upon the need for adoption of IPM techniques to increase the agriculture production and doubling of farmer income.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma Scientist (Animal Sciences) Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma Scientist (Animal Sciences) discussed the various welfare schemes of central and state governments in animal husbandry sector. He also discussed the role of organic waste produced from cattle and poultry.Dr. Shalini, Programme Assistant, KVK Samba emphasized the importance of soil in agricultural productivity.
