11/25/2022 11:51:02 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 25: Even as Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mayor and Apni Party leader Junaid Mattoo called a press conference to take a dig at the National Conference, a war of wards has only heated up among the two parties, especially on the social media.
Whereas on November 24, Mattoo while addressing media in Srinagar claimed that National Conference and Bhartiya Janta Party were in a secret alliance, the NC leaders took a dig at the Apni Party leader.
National Conference, spokesperson, Ifra Jan retweeted an old tweet of BJP Ram Madhav showing his support towards Junaid.
“Junaid Mattoo, independent supported by Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference and BJP has won d Mayor post of Srinagar. He polled against d combined candidate of PDP, NC and Congress by 40 votes to 26 votes. Congrats Junaid and Sajjad n all Corporators,” Ifra posted.
Junaid responded to Ifra on the social media saying: “How coy! What @IfraJan_
perhaps doesn’t know is that I also had the votes of ALL NC proxy Corporators from Khanyar and Batamaloo and her own little leader was part of ALL those meetings at Church Lane while his party was “BOYCOTTING”! Will educate more tomorrow in another PC!”
Another senior NC leader Shafqat Watali also came in support of Ifra Jan on the social media.
On the other hand, Junaid has been supporting the views of his previous arch-rival and former Deputy Mayor of SMC, Sheikh Imran.
While Imram and Junaid used to shower choices abuses on each other in the past, have joined hands to target the National Conference with choicest abuses.
Observers said the war of words between the National Conference and the Apni Party has become “online tamasha.”
“The online war of words between the two parties will only worsen in the coming days as the two look reluctant to mellow down,” said a political analyst on the condition of anonymity.
Observers said this could be the curtain-raiser ahead of the long awaited Assembly elections.
