The event was held under the guidance of Block Medical Officer Katra, Dr. Gopal Dutt; Principal SMVDCON, Shailla Canniee and Tutor Nursing, Sushma Kumari.
The speakers elaborated the objective of observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. They said that the day is observed to educate the public about one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in society. “It might take the shapes like intimate partner violence, sexual violence, human trafficking and child marriage etc. Most of the time violence against women and girls remains unreported due to impurity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it” they said.
The speakers also elaborated on the adverse psychological sexual and reproductive consequences of Violence on women at different stages of their life. “Violence against women continues to be an obstacle in achieving equality, development, peace as well as to the fulfillment of women and girl’s human rights,” they said.
During the event students of SMVDCON presented a beautiful skit role-play depicting and displaying the various issues related to VAW&G.
A large number of visitors, patients and officials/officers of CHC attended the programme with a pledge to support every initiative which would curb violence against women and girls to make our society happier and healthier.
