Freezing cold conditions in Kashmir, Srinagar witness coldest night at -2.2 deg C

Srinagar, Nov 29: Freezing cold conditions tightens grip over Kashmir valley even as Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season with temperature plunged to minus 2.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday, officials said.
The Meteorological Department forecast of current weather is mainly clear at most parts of Jammu and hazy at most places of Kashmir. The weather will mainly remain dry till December 7 with no forecast of any major snow spell.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the coldest night of the season with temperature plummeting to minus 2.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday against the minus 1.8 degree Celsius recorded on the previous night. It was minus 1.3 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season.
Most parts of Srinagar including Dal Lake, Boulevard road, Nihat, Shalimar and other parts were engulfed with thick fog with hazy weather conditions today.
Tourist hotspot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir valley where the minimum temperature had a low of minus 4.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday against the minus 4.0 degree Celsius recorded on the previous night.
The temperature was minus 0.8 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season at the valley of shepherds.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 1.5 degree Celsius against the minus 1.0 degree Celsius recorded a day ago which was 1.6 degree above normal during this time of the season at the valley of meadow.
Quzigund on Srinagar-Jammu National highway recorded a low of minus 1.8 degree Celsius, Kukernag had a low of minus 0.1 while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 2.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the MeT office said.
