ASC Nursing College organizes sports meet

JAMMU, Dec 10: Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education organized sports meet, Lamp Lighting ceremony and World AIDS Day from 8th - 10th December, 2022 under the aegis of NSS GAILLARDIA Chapter 16, J&K, Jammu in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, Jammu. The Theme for the World AIDS-2022 was "PUTTING OURSELVES TO THE TEST ACHIEVING EQUITY TO END HIV". The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sh. D.K.Batra, Secretary, ASCOMS and Guest of Honour was Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS. Special Guests were Dr. (Prof) Pity Koul, Prof & Dean, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University Gurgaon, Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Asstt. Director, Youth Affairs, J&K AIDS Control Society and Mr. Risheesh Khajuria, Asstt Director Publicity, J&K AIDS Control Society . Besides large number of faculty staff and students attended the function.
In his address, Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS & Hospital welcomed all dignitaries for joining the Lamp Lighting and Oath taking ceremony of 1st year B.Sc. Nursing and GNM Students. He said that this is a special occasion for the Nursing Students to begin their career in the Nursing field. He said that this day is attributed to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing who used the flame of the candle to light her way as she made the rounds of sick and injured. This bright flame has today become a symbol of knowledge, enlightenment, experience and hope. He said that all of you are here to become good nurses and I congratulate you for choosing this noble profession as this gives you greatest opportunity to serve others which they are sick. A nurse must possess these three basic qualities, i.e. commitment, competence and compassionate behavior. You are here to learn and I assure you that you will get all assistance from your teachers and mentors during the course of training. He advised the students to work hard and consistently and to take every opportunity to learn and discover by yourself from your teachers, friends, seniors and books as well as internet. He concluded his address with an old saying "If you want to be happy for an hour, go and watch TV; for a day; go for a picnic. But if you want to be happy for the rest sof your life - go and help someone".
Dr. (Prof.) Indra Moza, Principal Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education in her address thanked all dignitaries, specially the Chief Guest Sh.D.K.Batra, Secretary, ASCOMS & Hospital for sparing their valuable time to grace this function. She said the Lamp Lighting/Oath Taking ceremony of GNMs could not be held since 2019 because of Corona Pandemic which has been held today along with the 1st Year Batch of B.Sc. Nursing students. She thanked Dr.(Prof) Pity Koul, Prof & Dean, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University Gurgaon and officers from the AIDS Control Society for gracing this occasion and also the ASCOMS faculty, staff and students who were present. She gave a brief account of importance of Lamp Lighting/Oath taking ceremony and the beauty of this profession.
A short skit highlighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and its consequences which was liked by one and all. Also Dogri and Kashmiri Songs which were presented enthralled the Audience.
Dr. (Mrs. Piti Koul also addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of this day as well as of nursing profession and advised the budding nurses to complete their course with zeal and determination. She said that this Institution is the best place for flouring nursing career as hospital and other related facilities are also available.
Mementos and Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to the winner of games, poster and rangoli competitions and also to the dedicated staff by the Chief Guest.
The vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Mona, Asstt Prof. Nursing College who thanked one and all for sparing their valuable time to grace this occasion.
