Diocese rings in Christmas with carols competition

Jammu, Dec 17: The prelude of Christmas festivities reverberated St. Mary’s Garrison Church with choral melodies as the Catholic Church organized Carols Competition to provide a platform to ensembles of 17 Schools and Churches ring the bells of Christmas cheer while reminiscing the fond memories of (Late) Fr. Raphael Jeykumar in whose fond memory the enchanting event is arranged each year.
Fr. Mathew Thomas, ushered in the event by highlighting the significance of Carols in announcing the good news of Jesus’s birth. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira in his inaugural message described Jesus as the prince of peace whose only intention of taking birth among the humans was to save everyone from wretchedness and sin. He exclaimed that Christmas is a powerful sign of God’s unconditional love for us. The Bishop offered a fervent prayer and invoked God’s blessings on all the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and prayed for peace and joy in the region.
The event was graced by the valued presence several luminaries and civil society members besides members of the Christian community from nearby churches. Pankaj Kumar Sharma JKAS, the Excise Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir expressed his happiness for being able to participate in the event and appreciated the efforts of the choirs for the melodious renditions. He wished the greetings of Christmas to the community and prayed for peace and brotherhood.
Fr. Shaiju Chacko, the spokesperson of the Diocese congratulated all the choirs for their melodious renditions. He expressed happiness that the air was filled with vibrations of joy and positivity and he hoped that this Holy Season of Christmas would bring such positivity in the lives of people. He congratulated all the participating teams for spreading this message through their presentations at the competition.
The triad of acclaimed musicians in Christian devotional music, Fr. George GP, Francis and Vandana from Jalandhar adjudicated the spirited competition. All the teams participated with a true spirit of competition and delightfully proclaimed the coming of Jesus through their soulful singing. Bishop Ivan presented awards to the winners among schools and churches.
Fr Soosai Rajan expressed gratitude to all the sponsors of the enthralling event organized by the Diocese of Jammu – Srinagar in association with Pearson Education, Viva Education, Macmillan Education, Orange Publications, Green Earth, South Indian Bank, Sahitya Sangam and Entab Infotech Pvt. Ltd,. Vanshika and Aaron were the masters of ceremonies. The curtains on the ostentation were drawn with the sharing of season’s greetings amidst heightened jubilation marking the advent of Christmas Day.
