Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 23: The Research and Development Cell of MIER College of Education (Autonomous) organized a guest lecture for the faculty of both P.G. and U.G. departments on the theme "Publishing in High Impact Journals". The resource person was Prof. Santosh Panda, Director, STRIDE, IGNOU Delhi.
Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education, extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced him as an expert in the field of research and teacher education. Prof. Panda has been on the governing board and councils of numerous national and international agencies and universities. He is widely published and has conducted several workshops in over 26 countries. Prof. Panda is also on the editorial board of over 20 referred international journals.
Prof. Panda structured his deliberations into three board sections, research proposal and publishing, open access publishing and publishing in SCOPUS/SCI indexed journals. He comprehensively addressed the key components that a researcher must take into consideration while writing a research proposal/paper like what, why, how of the research and said how to clearly state the problem, provide its importance, situate it in the theoretical or conceptual framework, highlight the research done in the area and provide the research paradigm. The scholar should develop specific objectives and hypotheses, if needed, provide the methodology, and share the results and discussion and implications in a succinct manner. Prof. Panda discussed proprietary journals and open-access publishing and further explained the types of open-access journals, OA "Gold" (hybrid) which is paid, and OA "Green" which is free for publications with some limitations. He also emphasized the process of publication in such journals in a very systematic manner and also highlighted some of the common mistakes made by researchers while publishing their papers. This was followed by an active interaction session where the faculty members clarified their doubts and queries.
Dr. Nishta Rana, Head, Research and Development Cell, presented a formal vote of thanks to the distinguished speaker and the audience.
