BIS HRBO conducts Sensitisation Programme

Jammu, Dec 23: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Haryana Branch Office Chandigarh organised a Sensitization Programme for District Level Officers at Meeting Hall of DC office Kaithal.
The objective of the program was to develop better understanding and insights of standard formulation, use of Indian Standards and to promote procurement of ISI Marked Products by Government Officers.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kaithal. Dr. Sangeeta Tetarwal (IAS). Addressing the participants,
DC Kaithal said that standardisation is of uttermost importance for development.
She praised the BIS care app and other initiatives taken by BIS for the development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods.
Deepak Kumar Singla, Sr. Director and Head of BIS-HRBO gave an overview of the working of BIS. He said that BIS is the most vital part of quality ecosystem of the country and working to promote quality, safety and reliability of products and services through formulation of Standards and various Conformity Assessment Schemes.
BIS certification means for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the consumers.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Harsh Sonkar Sc-B, HRBO gave detailed presentation on department specific standards, Standards Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking and Compulsory Registration Scheme. He demonstrated ‘Know Your Standards’ portal of BIS through which standards can be easily located and downloaded free of cost.
He also demonstrated manakonline portal and BIS Care App through examples to check authenticity of ISI marked products and Hallmarked jewellery.
He also explained the penal provisions under BIS Act 2016 for misuse of BIS standard mark and violation of quality control orders, mechanism for redressal of complaints related to BIS certified products and provision of compensation to consumers was also explained.
Sh. Deepak Kumar also highlighted various initiatives of the BIS in bringing quality products to the customers. He said that the aim and objective of the programme is to aware the Heads of the Departments at District level about the Indian Standards, Quality parameters to check the substandard products, facilitate procurement of BIS certified products and Quality Control orders mandatory compulsory use of BIS standard mark.
Officers who attended the programme included officers of PWD B & R, Public Health, UHBVN, PWD Electric Division, Marketing Board & Panchayat Raj, DIC, District Social Welfare Officer, BDPO, EO/Secy. (MCs), Animal Husbandry, Dairy Department, District Fisheries, District Horticulture, Agro Industries and other district and sectoral officers of the district.
