Cracks start surfacing
12/23/2022 11:22:50 PM
Cracks have started appearing in the newly floated Democratic Azad Party (DAP) led by former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Three leaders who were expelled were Tara Chand, Dr Manohar Lal, and Balwan Singh, all known faces in J&K politics. They were accused of indulging in anti-party activities and hobnobbing with Congress.
When Azad floated his party many top leaders of the Congress snapped their ties with the “grand old party” of the country and joined the DAP.
Azad emerged on J&K’s political scene with a promise to fight for the rights of the people. After floating his party he has addressed many rallies in Jammu region and has been assuring people that he would live upto their expectations.
The former J&K chief minister is aware of the fact that the political scenario in the erstwhile state has changed after August 5, 2019 and it won’t be easy to lure the voters.
During the past three years the Centre has transformed J&K’s landscape as the Union Territory has witnessed unprecedented development. The governance deficit has been addressed and people have realized that there is a big difference between good and bad governance.
It’s not only Azad’s party that is facing problems, all the political parties are facing similar issues. None of the political formations are sure about their roles and whether the people are ready to buy their narrative or not.
Three top leaders who had joined Azad after quitting Congress returning to their parent party is an indication that politicians are confused. They are finding it hard to choose the right options for them. For the past four years politicians of all the parties have been sitting idle.
They are waiting for elections and are hoping that people would again repose their faith in them. But it seems that people are happy with New Delhi’s rule as it’s for the first time in the past 70-years that they have come to know what the governance in true sense means.
As there is a possibility of assembly elections being held next year, political parties are gearing up for the showdown and are hoping to become a part of the system. Till elections are held, political developments will keep on taking place and people will keep on joining and quitting the parties.
