Dr Surbhi becomes first Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon in J&K

JAMMU, Dec 24: American Oncology Institute (AOI) Jammu adds another feather to its cap of honours with Dr Surbhi Kudyar being the first trained Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir region. She has been conferred with the prestigious Magister Chirugiae (Mch) in Breast Oncoplasty from the University of East Anglia (UEA) (UK).
Oncoplastic breast surgery is an emerging approach which combines the techniques of breast cancer treatment surgery with cosmetic surgery to reconstruct the breast. A significant number of women suffering from breast cancer have to undergo mastectomy, i.e., surgical removal of one or both breasts or lumpectomy i.e., surgical removal of a discrete portion or a lump in the breast to get rid of the cancer cells. These procedures lead to the loss of the normal breast structure and this change in physical appearance can cause depression, frustration, low self-esteem and significant change in the social life of many women.
Dr. Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional COO, AOI, said, "We are delighted and congratulate Dr Surbhi Kudyar on being the first and only Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon in J&K. Dr Surbhi Kudyar who is the daughter of Dr. R.P. Kudyar who is an emminent Endocrinologist and Diabetologist of UT of J&K and daughter in law of B.D. Khajuria Retd. Xen PWD(R&B) has completed her MBBS from Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical sciences, Jammu. Dr. Pavan Malhotra Director Principal ASCOMS has been a great help in her research work during her course. She has presented various research papers in the international and national conferences highlighting the scenario of breast disease crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.
