SOTTO organizes organ donation awareness campaign

JAMMU, Dec 24: Jammu and Kashmir State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO J&K) organized a Valedictory Function of month-long awareness activities held in the month of November in view of 13th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD)2022 in Government Medical College Auditorium.
While addressing the gathering Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean, Government Medical College Jammu who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, said that nothing can be more selfless than truly giving those in need, a ray of hope and more precisely, a second chance to live by donating organs and informed the house that GMC Jammu did 12 live kidney transplant and 4 Corneal transplants and lauded the accomplishment of the departments involved in it.
Dr. Elias Sharma, Nodal Officer SOTTO J&K threw light on the current scenario of organ donation and transplantation in India. He presented achievements of SOTTO J&K since it's inception 3 years ago.
A movie on organ donation was also displayed during the event.
Poems and Declamation in Hindi and English, and Nukkad Natak were presented by the students of various Nursing Colleges.
The programme witnessed the participation of Faculty, staff and Administration of GMC, alongwith MDs, Principals, staff and students of Nursing Colleges.
Various activities in the month-long campaign in November were Awareness Walk, Poster making, Rangoli making, Nukkad Natak, Declamation in Hindi and English, Poem Recitation in Hindi and English, Collage Competition and Blood Donation Camp.
Colleges which participated were Government Nursing College Gangyal, Government Nursing College Gandhi Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing Chak Bhalwal, Bee Enn Nursing Institute Chak Bhalwal, Bee Enn College of Nursing Chak Bhalwal, Galaxy Paramedical College Sainik Colony Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Katra, Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education Sidhra and Stephens College of Nursing, Miran Sahib.
The winners of all the events were felicitated during the Valedictory Programme.
Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director SOTTO J&K.
Ashwani Khajuria, Administrator GMC & AHs, HoD's from various departments of GMC, Dr Meena Siddhu, head Blood Bank, Dr. Raju Bhandari Nephrologist, Dr. Sanjay Kai, Professor Ophthalmology and his team, Dr. Kailash Thakur Assistant Professor, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Medical Superintendent, State Cancer Institute, Jivtesh Singh, Chief Accounts Officer GMC, Dr. Sanjogita Soodan, Deputy Medical Superintendent SSH Jammu were also present in the programme.
