Ghar Wapsi no cakewalk for Cong deserters
12/27/2022 10:52:53 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 27: Amid reports that “committed” Congress leaders opposed giving previous positions to the “deserters”, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organization) K C Venugopal has reportedly not shown much enthusiasm about the “Ghar Wapsi” of ex-loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Highly placed sources in Congress said that issue of rejoining of former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and other Congress leaders was discussed during the brief stay of K C Venugopal at Jammu.
“K C Venugopal hailed the move of Congress leaders to convince the loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad to raise the banner of revolt against their political mentor”, a source said but added that AICC general secretary sought time to reinduct these leaders in the party.
Wishing anonymity, a senior Congress leader said that while travelling from Jammu to Srinagar local leaders discussed the fate of ex-loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad with K C Venugopal, who asked local party leaders to wait for some time to reinduct these leaders.
Sources said that K C Venugopal further assured loyalists and committed Congress leaders- who prefer to stay in the party despite the pulls and pressures of Azad, that those who left the party would not be given the previous position.
Sources said that most of the Congress leaders are of the opinion that those who deserted Azad have no option but to return to the party so leadership must bring them back on its own term and conditions.
Some “dedicated” Congress leaders have asked the high command not to give much importance to those who left the party along with the former Chief Minister.
