KVK provides Agromet Advisory Services to farmers

REASI, Jan 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is providing the Agromet Advisory Services to the farmers of Reasi district and guiding them on climate resilient agriculture so as to enhance their farm income. According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, District Agrometrological Unit (DAMU) has been established at KVK, Reasi which is helpful to provide the timely weather based information to the farmers of Reasi district. He said that KVK, Reasi is disseminating the agrometrological information to the farmers twice a week by which the farmers are able to manage their crops accordingly and utilize the agro inputs efficiently. He informed that different modes of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are utilized by the KVK to disseminate the block level weather based agro advisories on every Tuesday and Friday. He said that farmers can take weather sensitive decisions such as sowing or harvesting of crops, pesticide and fertilizer application, irrigation scheduling after getting the timely Agromet Advisory Services. Dr.Lobzang Stanzen, Scientist, Agrometrology said that timely agroadvisories are helpful to increase the income of the farmers by efficiently utilizing their farm resources and managing their crop fields effectively. He said that KVK, Reasi guides and creates awareness among the farmers on extreme weather events like heavy rainfall, hails, snowfall, drought etc. well in time and farmers can save the considerable loss of their crops. He said that feedback of various agroadvisories are also taken from the farmers. He added that farmers can minimize the cost of crops production by utilizing the timely weather forecast information. He added that KVK is encouraging the farmers to avail the Agromet Services to the farmers to boost their agricultural production and by minimzing the adverse impact of extreme weather events. By observing the benefits of Agromet Advisory Services many new farmers are showing zeal and enthusiasm towards the innovation.
