Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 4: The arrest of a teacher-turned-Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist has stunned authorities as he was not on the list of terror-friendly employees who were on the radar of the intelligence agencies.
Highly placed sources said that after arresting teacher-turned-Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Arif Ahmed, intelligence agencies have decided to focus on the Education Department to single out terror-friendly teachers.
“The radical groups like Jamaat-e-Islami have managed entry of a large number of their supporters in the Education Department with the help of the successive popular governments in the erstwhile state of J&K”, sources said and added that the majority of the terror-friendly employees, who were so far identified by the authorities, were working in the Education Department.
Sources said that special teams will be constituted to focus on the Education Department to single out terror-friendly teachers.
Amid reports that terror groups managed infiltration of their cadre into administration, the Jammu and Kashmir government, on April 2021, had announced the formation of a Special Task Force (STF) to identify and scrutinize government employees with links to activities that pose threat to national security.
The SFT is headed by J&K's intelligence chief, who served for a decade in the Research and Analysis Wing before returning to J&K. The panel has been assigned the job to compile records of such employees and refer the same to the committee already constituted in the month of July 2020. The panel has also engaged other members of the Terror Monitoring Group (TMG) for identifying such other employees.
As reported earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested teacher-turned-LeT terrorist Arif Ahmed who was regularly getting salary without any checking. Arif Ahmed, elder brother is also a government teacher.
The arrested Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) teacher was posted at Government Middle School Phajilla in the Barnsal area of Ghulabgarh of Reasi district. He was involved in terror activities since long but higher-ups of the Education Department in that area were unaware of anti-national activities.
Reports said that Arif Ahmed was first appointed as Rebar-e-Talim (ReT) teacher in the same school. After completing a five-year period he was regularized as a regular teacher in 2016.
For the last four years, Arif Ahmed was involved in terror activities and triggering one after another blasts in different parts of Jammu province.
